Uploading Video From a Phone

My phone connects to the computer using a USB cord, or you can take out the MINI SD card and use the sd card reader to connect it.

My Phone
My phone stores videos as MP4, which opens up with VLC media player.

New Terms Relating to Audio Files

meaning of new terms according to Dictionary.com

Stereo - equipment for sound recording and reproduction that utilizes two or more independent channels of information

Channel - a path for the transfer of signals or data within a computer or between a computer and its peripheral equipment

Track - any of a number of separate sections in the recording on a record, CD, or cassette
Frequency

Frequency -  the number of cycles or completed alternations per unit time of a wave or oscillation

Decibel

Hertz - the SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second

Decibel - a unit used to express the intensity of a sound wave, equal to 20 times the common logarithm of the ratio of the pressure produced by the sound wave to a reference pressure, usually 0.0002 microbar

WAV- multimedia, file format, filename extension. A sound format developed by Microsoft and used extensively in Microsoft Windows
MP3 - the file extension for MPEG Audio Layer-3, a set of standards for compressing and downloading audio files from the internet

AIFF - stands for audio interchange file format

Data Compression

What is data compression ?
It is the process of encoding information, using fewer bits than the original representation.

What is a data compression ratio ?

 {\rm Compression\;Ratio} = \frac{\rm Compressed\;Size}{\rm Uncompressed\;Size}

Why is data compression an important technique for the online world ?
It helps reduce the comsuption of expensive resources eg. hard disc space or bandwidth

What is the difference between Lossy and Lossless data compession ?
Lossy compression compresses data, making them into smaller files, keeping the high quality picture. But this type of compression throws away data, which cannot be restored, hence the name. While the Lossless data compression only allows an approximation of the original data to be reconstructed, in exchange for better compression rates. Some Lossless data compression include, ZIP format files.

Which methods offers the greatest compression ratio ?
Lossy

Why is human psychology and perception an important factor in methods of Lossy compression ?
As the user, you need to know what you are doing, as when you use Lossy compression, you cannot go back. Once your data is compressed you cannot retrieve the data that is loss. So making the right decision for what  type of compression is essential.

Name Lossy file formats for audio, still image and video format ?
Audio - MP3
Still Image - JPEG
Video - AVI

Assessment Post 8

Today we didnt have IST but we met up at lunch to edit what we had, meaning we went to the library.
Then at period 5 we filmed one of the last scenes in class, with our teachers permission. This is what we filmed:
In class
At home, i created the title/intro, the 'special thanks to...' and the 'starring' scene.
The starring scene can be found here.
im also looking through some music to use as the 'soundtrack'.
so far i think one of these song:
would be appropriate, i will show them to my group first.

Assessment Post 7

This lesson we are still fixing up some of the scene, which means re-filming them. It is due this friday, and as a group we know we will have troubles finishing it.
This is one of the scenes we shot

Introduction to Video

What are some advantages of digital video ?
It is easier to edit the video, add sound effects, delete scene etc

What is meant by frame rate in video ?
How many frames there is in one second

Are all videos/movies the same frame rate, explain you answer
No, because if there are a high frame rate the movement is quicker and flowing. While if there was a low frame rate the movement of the video will be jerky and not smooth

What is meant by resolution, how is it measured
It describes the number of dots, or pixels, used to display an image. measured my pixels

What is the colour system called RGB
It is a system containing the colours red, green, blue and are added together to in various ways to form a broad array of colours

Explain the video standards PAL, NTSC, and SECAM, what are the main differences between them
PAL, short for Phase Alternating Line, NTSC named for the National Television System Committee, Sequential Couleur Avec Memoire OR Sequential Colour with Memory. The main differences between them is that each country uses a different system, meaning that each system is INCOMPATIBLE with each other.

Which stardard do we use in Australia ?
We use PAL (Phase Alternating Line)

What is an IEEE 1394 port
It is also known as FireWire, that originated from Apple. It allows you to connect an device (eg. video camera) into the computer. IEEE 1394 allows a much higher bandwidth than USB, this allow you to feed a high-resolution video camera into a computer without experiences issues.

Why do digital video camera use video compression
Compression means the information is packed into a smaller space. Videos take up a lot of space, "lossy" compression, compresses the video into smaller files, but the video will still keep its high-quality picture. We use video compression to make the video smaller.

Describe what a codec is
Shorter names for codec-decoder, it takes RAW files and turns it into a compressed file.
What is meant by "generation loss", where does it happen ?
Example of Generation Loss
It refers to the loss of quality and potential increase of file size. Anything that reduces the quality of the representation when copying, and would cause further reduction in quality on making a copy of the copy, can be considered a form of generation loss. It can occur by 'lossy compression' as lossy compression throws away data, which cannot be restored.

Assessment Post 6

Today we filmed parts of the video that we originally had filmed but once put together it didnt run smoothly. So we just re-filmed and done some more scenes at school.
We are starting to feel the pressure as it is about in a weeks time we have to hand it in as we have not finished filming/editing; and dont know if we can finish it.

Assessment Post 5

Today, me Aish and Kate met up at my house. We decided to continue filming our video because we were unsure if at school we were still allowed to to, because of the new rule enforced. So we filmed at my house one scene, continued to storyboard, started putting the video together in WMM (cutting, pasting, editing the videos) and did the light graffiti photos for the intro scene. It looks really cool, and turned out really great. We got a lot done and started putting together the video. We went through ALL the videos we took at school from my digital camera, my phone camera and also kates camera. It was a lot of videos, we pasted the videos we could use into a folder, then we seperated those videos into the different scenes and then numbered the videos according to when they occur in the video. We did that so we are organised with the videos, so then it makes it easier for us to find videos. When we were putting the video together, we realised that some videos did not flow from one camera shot to another. It was very jumpy. We decided that we would re-shoot these parts on the Wednesday, as it was the next lesson we were all there as a group, because on the tuesday me, aish and angela will be at the commerce incurison for the whole day.

Assessment Post 4

Gnatt Chart

This is our gnatt chart, it shows when we plan to do each step of the process of making our video. Planning should take one week to complete (this includes storyboard), filming we assume will take three weeks to complete, while editing the video clips will take two weeks to do. This is according to how many IST lessons we have that week to complete the step.

We have planned to go to someones house either this week or next week, to continue filming.

Today, we have a clear idea about the whole scene/s we are filming (at school), we have done many trials and have come to the conclusion about how we will shoot the scene/s at school. We have already got our idea of all the film angles and so we are filming to real thing, today.

At the end of this lesson we have mostly finished filming the main parts of the scenes. There are only little bits and pieces left to do, which wont take long. We have not finished our storyboard as we have not found out more creative ways to expand the 'coins' journey, we are having difficulitys deciding how to end the video. Every time we come up with a soild idea for the video we wrote it done, and try to incorporate it into the video, making the stroyline flowing. But we are still yet to finish our conclusion.
Here are our sample shots we took:

Assessment Post 3

Today, we have decided to use stop motion and maybe light graffti shown on this video. on our own video. Light graffiti is photographic technique in which exposures are made in a dark atmosphere (at night, in a dark room etc.) It is done by moving a hand-held light source, while the camera is on timer. We will write in the air "A Life of A Coin"
This is our storyboard.

These are some example of light graffiti:

Stop Motion ismaking an object move in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating an illusion of movement; when it is just series of frames.
Some examples of Stop Motion:
human tetris
Her Morning Elegance

We are planning to use light graffiti to introduce the topic of our video at the beginning. We are continuing filming our video.
Here are some sample shots of some scenes we took today:
