Buying a Scanner

Scanner

1. HP Scanjet G3110 Photo Scanner

2. specifications click here. there are too many.

3. DPi = up too 4800 DPi

DPi (dots per inch) refers to the resolution. the more dots the higher the resolution.

Resolution = 216 x 297 mm

The resolution refers to the amount of information per DPi (dots per inch), that the scanner can read. The more dots the higher the resolution.

Colour depth = 48bit

The Colour depth also known as the Bit Depth is the amout of information the scanner gets, the higher it is the more colours get used and it looks better. Most scanners have a 24 bit depth.

Careers in Digital Graphics

Web Development Link 1
1.      What does the person in the career do?

A Web Developer is a software Engineer that develops applications for the world wide web (internet).

2.   Where would you see this person’s work (e.g. in the newspaper, in a game shop)?

It doesnt say where this type of person would work, but im assuming in a office, because you need a computer to do your work, obviously.

3.      What training is needed for the career?

You can get formal training a MSCS or MSCS. But you dont have too, you dont need experience but can start by developing small compenents or pieces of web applications. The more training you have the better.

4.      What kind of software and hardware is used?

It doesnt state what type of software/hardware is used but i think software and hardware used are
  • Business applications (eg. Microsoft Office etc.)
  • Enterprise Software
  • Media Development Software (eg. Digital Animation Software, Multimedia Development Software etc.)
  • Type of Software used
  • Product Engineering Software (used for developing hardware and software products eg. computer aided design, computer language editing etc)
  • Graphical User Interface (command choices from various menus, buttons and icons using a mouse eg. Windows and Mac OS)
Graphic Design Link 1

1.      What does the person in the career do?

The person is responsible for arraging using elements on different types of media. It is the profession on visual communication that combines images, words and ideas to create something.

2.   Where would you see this person’s work (e.g. in the newspaper, in a game shop)?

This person would work anywhere, because graphic design is all around us. They could work for newspapers desinging the layout, billboard ads, business cards etc. Working in different environments.

Example of a Design

3.      What training is needed for the career?

I think the training for this career is just knowledge for working graphics softwares such as Adobe Photoshop, knowing how to use it. And also being creative, have an open mind and know what to do.

4.      What kind of software and hardware is used?

There is one main software that is used, Graphics Software (eg. Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign)

I do not know any other students that are doing the same task as me, therefore i will have no links to another students blog.

Buying a Digital Camera

1. I already have two digital cameras. A Pentax K100D and a Mju Tough 8010 (olympus). I use the Pentax and Olympus for professional shots and i also own a Flickr and Tumblr account. Which i sometimes share photos using these websites. The Olympus camera is waterproof so i can take underwater shots.
I want a camera that takes high quality pictures and are easy to use.

2.The website doesnt tell you what resolution to look for...

3. The link doesnt work...

4. Instead of finding two digital cameras, i have decided to comparing film and digital cameras.
In my opinion film has a better look once developed. Film is more expensive, you need to buy the film for the camera costing around $10 for 36 exposures, 35 mm. Developing it costs around $10 for one roll.

Example of a Film Camera
Digital there is an unlimited amount of shots depending on how big your memory card it, but for 4 gb memory card you can take around 300 shots. Also the developing is much cheaper, you can print these photos for are 15 cents each. Also digital cameras allow you to view the photos on the computer, making it easier to edit it using PhotoShop etc.

Digital cameras are excellent in every way, but i prefer film because of the quality once developed. Some people may say that film takes "crap" photots because it looks grainy or un-clear, but thats the effect that i like.

5. A card reader is a device used to quickly transfer photos/videos from your camera, instead of plugging in you camera into your computer using cords. Card readers make it easier, putting the card into your USB hole.

Assessment Leson Five

This lesson i have already completed all the frams on the weekend. i have made 166 frames, which are no longer transparent, i have also resized them all using the Paint program. Making it 500 x 226 pixels. I have also finished putting all the sides onto Windows Live Movie Maker and the frame rate is 0.16 sec per frame. Choosing this frame rate makes the animation neither too slow or too fast. It was quite hard choosing how fast to make the frame rate, i didnt want it to be too fast becasue people would not know what the stroyline is. But making it too slow would look to edgy and jerky. I am finished, am im now uploading onto my blog.

Assessment Lesson Four

This lesson i forgot to bring my USB which has all my frames. So i cant continue doing the animation, but i will finish it at home on the weekend. But at home i have made the frames all NOT transparent, because they were transparent before. And i have also resized it. I have made 30 frames so far...

Assessment Lesson Three

This lesson i have just realised that i didnt set the canvas to a solid colour, it is transparent. When it is not meant to be, so i need to fix that problem. Also i need to 'shrink' the size of the picure, which i can do at the end using Paint, selecting the "Resize" button. I will set it to around 500 pixels.
I'm continuing making the frames, which should be finished by Friday. I am sticking with the storyline i made up in "Assessment Lesson One".

Assessment Lesson Two

This lesson i have now started saving the frames i have created for the final GIF.
I had to open the 'dragon' picture on InkScape, and from that i changed the colour of the outer layer so i can make dragons for each House Colour (below). The original colour of the 'dragon' was green. Then after changing the outer layer i GROUPED it so it can become ONE image. A problem i encounted was that i had GROUPED the picure and THEN changed the colour of the 'dragon', of course that didnt work because the 'dragon' would turn out like this (below), as you can see, the whole dragon was pink because i had grouped it before changing the colour.
Other than that there was no problems this lesson.

Blue
So i'm used InkScape, and i am saving the frames as PNG format files.

Assessment Lesson One

I have decided what to do for my assessment. It will be a group of dragons of the colours of the house colours. The purple (Dobson) dragon will be the biggest one, while the other colours will smaller, one by one the other house coloured dragons will come and stand next to the purple dragon. Once all the little dragons are in the picture, i will make them blow out fire (of course the fire will be small), the big dragon will then get 'annoyed' and then blow his BIG FIRE on them which will say "GO DOBSON!". Then all the little dragons will run away. That will be the outline of the story, i am creating. It is very simple, but i could not think of anything else, the maine character is a dragon because one of Dobson's mascot is a dragon.]

I will be using InkScape as the program to create the frames for my GIF. I chose this program because it is easier to use and to edit the picture (changing dragon's colour, enlarge or decrease the size of the dragon).
These are the images i am basing the frames on, i found it on www.openclipart.org/.

The Dragon

Flame
I have started to organise where they will be placed on the 'page' on InkScape.

Buying a Graphics Tablet

A graphics tablet is a device used by artist to draw pictures into a computer screen without useing a mouse or a keyboard. A graphics tablet uses either a pen or a stylus to draw onto the tablet.

" Wacom 12WX - digitizer, stylus
All over the world, creative professionals use sketchbooks to express their first ideas. This is why the 12WX was developed as if it was a sketchbook: With a smooth, flat surface. And with a light weight that enables you to use it on your knees and to show it around to others. As you would do with paper – digital paper.

No matter whether the 12WX is on your desk or in your lap – just plug in and visualize your thoughts immediately with Wacom's patented pen technology on a high-resolution LCD monitor. Which can be part of a multi-monitor environment, too.

Tap the full potential of your creativity: slim, light and durable, the Cintiq 12WX enables you to work wherever you feel inspired. It fits into everyday laptop bags. So just choose your favorite working environment – all you need is a Mac or PC and power. And discover the broad variety of creative opportunities. "
Pressure Levels mean how sensitive the tablet is to the pressure. The pressure-sensitivity controls the line thickness, transparency and/or colour. The higher the Pressure levels are the more responsive it is, you will have more control.
The finer the resolution the more control you can exert over the image normally described by Lpi (lines per inch)
Under the tab "Specifications" - "Input Device". It states the Pressure Levels which is 1024. The Resoultion is also under the "Input Device" it is 5080 lpi (lines per inch). The Tablet costs $1498.

Draw vs Paint: Olympic Rings

This it the Olympic Rings i created using Paint, as you can see the paint program doesnt/ wont let you overlapped/not overlap. Paint makes it only overlap everything, it doesnt underlap

This is the Olympic Rings i created using InkScape, i didnt know how to make them overlap/underlap, so i just placed a rectangle of whatever colour ring it is, over the rings. To make it look like it is overlapping when it is not.

The problems i came across while making the rings are the problem of overlaping, that is the only problem i came across, but i have overcomed that.

Image File Types

GIF Files: A GIF image, has a number of colours that run on the same-colour pixels. For example if there is 200 pixels on a picture with a colour of 82 the image file stores the colour (81) and the lenght of the run (200). GIF files are good for storing drawings that have a lot of the same colour pixels.

JPEG Files: Is one of the most popular image format. It has good compression characteristics on photographic data and it let you adjust the amount of compression. it stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group.
Example of a JPEG File

Example of a Animated GIF
Animated GIF Files: An ANIMATED GIF is a different thing to a GIF image. It is a sequence of GIF files bonded together and are displayed one after another. You can also make and animated GIF out of a video.

MPEG Files: This type of file tries to eliminate repetition between frames. it stands for Moving Picture Experts Group.

Shockwave Files: this file type provides a vector-based animation capability. It specifies the colour of every pixel and of every shape. Shockwave files can be small, they also allow animation and sound.

Digital Art... Real Art...?

This is my artwork that i made using http://artpad.art.com/artpad/painter/. It is a family of stick figures, using the Paint brush and different colours.

“Is digital art a valid form of art?” - I agree that is IS A FORM OF ART. Art is something you have created with your own skills and imagination. Digital Art is not cheating, it is using your own skills to create something new, just using a different method. For example my stick family painting is ART because i made it, with my own skill and i hade to choose what colours and what to draw, the computer isnt "doing all the work for me".
Some advantages that digital draw and paint provides is that you can edit your picture easily eg. erasing, choosing a more exact colour. It has different programs and styles you can use to make you art eg. cut and copy, effects, photoshop program. You can also save the file and/or make multiple copies of your artwork.
The skills you need to create digital art is IMAGINATION, knowing how to use a program (Adobe PhotoShop, InkScape, Paint) and knowing what you want to make.
DIGITAL ART IS REAL ART.

away~

i was away on the 2nd of March. The lesson we learnt to make an animation (The bouncing ball ?)

Creating A Vector Image Light Bulb

Here is my PACMAN, i couldnt make a light bulb so i did something easier, a pacman. But you cant really see the shadow thing on it, since the shadow is black and my blog background is black... It is using the InkScape Program following these instructions http://howto.nicubunu.ro/inkscape_pacman_baddies/

Assessment Post 2

This lesson, we used two phone cameras and one video camera, we are currently deciding how many cameras to use. We started filming our first scene, at the lockers. We have started our storyboard and will be continuing it as we go/film.
Today, we are starting to film our video, we are starting our first scene and seeing what camera angles to do. We have chosen to use two or three cameras, while filming so we have different angles and perspectives. We are starting with the locker scene. And we are working on our storyboard, which we are coming up as we go/film.
